The resourcing of accurate and reliable information is critical to ensure the competency of our services. An integral part of these services is to educate our clients in evolving industry trends and standards and to act as a resource for the project team in our areas of expertise. Powerhouse Design routinely uses the following resources in the performance of our work:
International Building Code (part of the International Code Council) www.iccsafe.org
American National Standards Institute (ANSI). ANSI and the ICC have teamed to create the definitive code on accessibility standards.
American Institute of Architects (AIA) www.aia.org
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has been the leading professional membership association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners since 1857.
US Green Building Council (USGBC) www.usgbc.org
The USGBC develops and promotes the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) www.iesna.org
The IESNA is the recognized technical authority on illumination. The IESNA publishes ANSI approved standards widely accepted as the benchmark for performance of lighting systems.
Pittsburgh section www.iespittsburgh.org
Nation Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) www.ncqlp.org
The NCQLP is responsible for establishing the professional certification Lighting Certified (LC). As a certifying body, the organization is responsible for establishing benchmark performance criteria for the lighting professions. Federal Clients: The LC credential is required for all federal lighting projects as mandated by the General Services Administration, refer to the website for more information.
International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) www.iald.org
The IALD is an international organization committed to establishing standards of lighting excellence and is committed to the promotion and advancement of professional lighting designers.
Lighting Energy Codes, Standards, and Information
Lighting energy or Lighting Power Densities (LPDs) is a critical part of all projects and conformance to federal, state, and local standards is required. Most authorities utilize recognized standards as minimum criteria for projects under the jurisdiction. The following are commonly used as a basis for design and resource:
ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1 – 2004 www.ashrae.org
International Energy Conservation Code (part of the International Code Council) www.iccsafe.org
Department of Energy www.energy.gov Comcheck and Rescheck www.energycodes.gov
NFPA 70: National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) www.nfpa.org
The NFPA is responsible for developing the industry accepted National Electric Code.
Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) www.bicsi.org
BICSI is an organization responsible for industry performance and standards for Information Transport Systems (ITS). In the building industry, BICSI is more commonly known as the organization responsible for establishing the Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) credential. RCDD certified professionals are recognized as having expertise in the development and designing of low voltage systems commonly utilized in building infrastructures. The Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) establishes performance criteria for many of these systems.
